Writing · One brain, two feeds

Tennessee writing lives here. Everything else still lives at RachelandTheCity.

I’ve been writing about politics and culture for years - the back catalog is at rachelandthecity.com, and that’s where the national stuff still goes. This page is where I write about Tennessee. The district. The counties. The fights I’m running on. Things people in TN-5 need to know that I’m not going to bury inside a national essay.

Two feeds. Pick what you need. Or follow both.

Tennessee writing

Campaign-issue writing. The 17 counties of District 5 are where my attention goes. I’m writing about who’s on the ballot, who’s rigging what, what the legislature in Nashville is up to, and what specific things are breaking in Memphis, Frayser, South Memphis, Lake County, Lauderdale, Maury County, and everywhere in between.

Here’s what’s on it:

District 5 candidates and races. State-level corruption and the people running it. County-level reporting from the road. Rural hospital closures and the people who let it happen. The Tennessee gerrymander. Memphis-specific accountability writing. Field notes from county trips. Endorsements and anti-endorsements with the receipts.

National & cultural writing

Lives at · rachelandthecity.com

Everything that isn’t Tennessee-specific. The federal grift, the cultural moment, the Trump administration’s daily nonsense, the music industry, media analysis, the GriftMatrix investigations, and the personal essays. It’s the project I’ve been building for years, and it’s not going anywhere just because I filed for office.

What you’ll find there:

National politics and the Trump administration in plain language. The GriftMatrix - the long-running investigation into who’s grifting whom. Cultural commentary. Music industry essays.

Why the split

Because running for Congress in TN-5 is a different job than writing about the country.

If you live in this district, you don’t need me to explain federal politics to you - you can find that anywhere. What you need is somebody actually paying attention to what’s happening here, naming the people doing it, and showing you the receipts. That’s what this page is for.

If you’re here because you’ve been following my national writing for the last few years, welcome. That work continues at RachelandTheCity, exactly the way it has been. I’m not stopping. I’m just adding a second feed for the campaign-specific writing so the Tennessee stuff doesn’t get buried under everything else, and the everything-else doesn’t crowd out the district.

One brain, two feeds. Same voice on both.

The newsletter

The Substack sends the writing straight to your inbox.

If you’d rather not check the site, the newsletter at rachelandthecity.substack.com sends the writing out as it goes up. Everything I write about this campaign and the district is free - no paywall, ever - and so is every Daily Grift post. The only paid posts are the occasional one-off essays on national politics. If you’re here for the campaign, free is all you need.

Pick a feed. Or both. Either way.

The Tennessee writing on this page is where the campaign work lives. The national writing at RATC is where the bigger picture lives. They run in parallel, and they’ll keep running in parallel through August.
